God Never Gets Off Our Path

I was talking with our God about how I was not able to help a lady and considering if it would be best for me to refer her to someone else in the therapeutic community. He hasn’t always guided me this way. But I sensed Him communicating to me, “Maribeth, she and you both need to know that I do not need you to change, heal or grow or live life successfully. I will walk your journeys with you regardless- because I love you and you are treasures to Me!

  • There are times, where no matter what you do, to “help”…. some will continue to not be “teachable” or “willing” to maybe just unable to take in the good, or having the ability to make choices or do the hard work of getting better “enough” . The subconscious takes in…it has no choice, that it’s how the unconscious mind works, so the work you are doing with this lady…will get in, and God has a way of finding the chink in the armour….even if it’s just a mustard seed. You are doing your part, at this point, it’s eventually up to her to stay with you, or find other sources. Continue your caring for her…you have a very unique way of relating to people, trust me…just being there, in their situations may be enough. Just Being. Sometimes we can only see our side of the street, but either way…whether she stays with you or not, I will bet that she will be drawn to the original way you have of bringing a person back to calm, a unique way of explaining how our Father has created us…a different set of eyes, different from a very ill church in today’s world. I don’t personally believe that we heal from all hurts, slights, damaged childhoods, abuse, we may just have scabs that will always be unresolved…but learning to ask our Father to let the Holy Spirit at least help and give us Power to react differently, even though we get triggered. I have been a lifelong “client”, starting therapy at 21…it’s taken years of work, and some things are put away now, in the past where they belong, but it’s taken years due to my diagnosis at 23. I am now 53, and still struggling, and have accepted that I will struggle till I die. She may need to hear at some point that “practicing” choices is hard work, and if she wants to truly “participate” in her own recovery, she will have to put more effort and courage into what you are recommending. There are times where we are victims, truly victims of horrible acts, but it takes a lot of courage to walk through them, and she may never get there, OR it may just take more time and maturity. It’s an every day commitment, and some just are not dedicated enough…they just want to vent, or cry, or rage…and those do have their place, and time, but then we dig in and make a choice to stop re-feeling the bad. I think you have done your side, so if she isn’t complaining about how your not helping, then I would leave the decision up to her. She continues to see you, so she is receiving something. I will pray for this situation.

    • Christina, thanks for taking the time to write. You have done well in capturing much of my thoughts behind the scenes of my post. I like how you process life from the long journey you have been on. I appreciate your encouragement. Thank you for talking with our Father about the situation and this dear lady.

And I remain so grateful that our God does not insist that we change in order for Him to stay on our paths with us. Now that is non-manipulative love that does my soul good!
